Soulwax 'Conversation Intercom (Mixes)' (P.I.A.S)
Fellow Europeans Soulwax release the header from their well-received
album "Much Against Everyone's Advice". 'Conversation Intercom',
the original, is a dirty rock/pop number with an ultra catchy
vocal thread and a fully howdy-cowboy guitar riff.
The mixes change the course quite a bit, taking the feel
to more of an eighties, electronic edge and unusually keeping
the full vocal active throughout the 2 a-side mixes.
Ladytron provide the opening mix adding electro twinges and
keeping the tempo down. Soulwax members Stephen and David
Dewaele show their versatility with the Vocoder Mix. "AAArgh!!!
not more vocoders!" I hear you cry, but this has little in
common with Cher and is closer to something Kraftwork could
have come up with.
On the flip the Alpinestars chop the vocal out all together
making the western style guitar the subject and adding atmospheric
synths and a harder edge.
If you're an original Soulwax fan, this could be a bit of
a shock to the system but the pain is definitely worth the
gain.
