Soulwax
Too Many DJ's(PIAS)
Too many bands, too, and most of them appear to be living
inside Soulwax. It should be a huge Belgian waffle of a record,
this: daft beatboxing, rock hysterics, sky-high emotional
pitch, postmodern glee - it doesn't bode well for not wanting
to choke them with their perfectly-knotted ties. Yet somehow,
Soulwax carry off the idea like they carry off the kitchen
sink, welcoming you to a world where Beck, Korn, Axl Rose
and Mixmaster Mike all co-exist in peaceful UN accord. "Something's
gotta give", howls the heavy-rotation chorus, yet the Soulwax
boundaries are elasticated for comfort. Just expect the next
record to include a little organ grinding, maybe some klezmer
violins. Oh, and a flute.
