Soulwax
All you need to know about Soulwax...

* Soulwax are Stephen Dewaele [vocals], David Dewaele [Guitar], Stefaan van Leuven [bass], Inge Flipts [Keyboards] & Stephane Misseghers [drums].

* Brothers Stephen and David were brought up in Ghent, sons of a Belgian DJ who was the first to play Led Zeppelin on national radio. They formed Soulwax in the early 90s heavily influenced by 70s rock and early 80s electronica.

* 1996: After hearing some early demos, Masters Of Reality frontman and godfather of the nu-metal scene, Chris Goss invites the band to LA to record their debut album.

* The band sign to PIAS Recordings who release debut album 'Leave the Story Untold'.

* Spring 1998: At the suggestion of LA's KCRW 'Men In The Moon' radio talk show, the band collaborate with classically trained singer/violinist Tracy Bonham on track 'My Cruel Joke'. The track, with its crescendo of guitar, breakbeats and violin, is released to critical acclaim and points towards a new Soulwax sound.

* 1999: The band return to LA to record their second album with Red Hot Chilli Peppers producer David Sardy.

* October 1999: Second album 'Much Against Everyone's Advice' is released proceeded by the single 'Too Many DJ's'. Q lauds their innovation as suggestive of "Reef going synth-pop. Other moments reveal Led Zeppelin riffage ('Too Many DJs') while others still are the spit of Squeeze ('Saturday'). Add to that guitarist David Dewaele's adroit human beatbox skills and you have a troupe more off the rails than off the peg." The NME call "their genre abrasion gentle - infusing their basic indie-guitar moves with a touch of the blues, some sweetly odd time signatures and the inevitable whiff of The Beatles."

* August 2000: David and Stephen, in their highly successful DJ alter egos The Flying Dewaele Brothers, headline Belgium's biggest outdoor party in Leuven.

* February 2001: Single 'Conversation Intercom' released supported by UK tour.
