For
that perfect shine?.it's Soulwax!
Soulwax at The Borderline, London? Monday, 22nd November 1999.
What better way to start the week than with a groovy, loud and
lovely band on a chilly Monday night? The band is Soulwax. Their
music is a bit of everything. Their sound is a bit of brilliance.
They're here to touch your soul and rock your world with their
brand of in your face variation-rock. With a singer that likes
to belt out tunes, a guitar player that likes to jam, and a
band that likes to give 1000% for each song, they appear to
be a gig made in heaven, or?.Belgium. Straight from Ghent, they
are the show with no predictions. The suit and tie brothers
Dewaele struck a pose with every groove, while singer Stephen
belted out each tune like there was no tomorrow, and brother
David teased us with his collection of guitars and near perfect
musicianship.
Like a fine cheese platter, their music is a selection of mouth-watering
indulgence to suit everyone's taste. From funky acid-jazz and
folksy blues, to thrashy metal chords and industrial Moog-guitar
noises. In one night we were treated to just about every musical
genre, both original and otherwise. This included a human beat-box,
(courtesy of David's microphone skills and awesome lung power),
an extremely accurate cover of TAFKAP's "Pop Life", and a hilarious
homemade sample of Backstreet's Boys annoying chorus to "Backstreet's
Back", with, of course, the lyrics swapped for "SOULWAX'S BACK,
ALL RIGHT!!". Yes, they're back, but I reckon they're here to
stay. All right! |
