Stef, who was at the set in Virgin Megastores, sent me some photographs and a review of the 'gig'.

Initially Soulwax appear to be the weak link on the Day of Rock bill, the Belgian quintet's clever Beck-isms in danger of being drowned out by the sonic carnage around them. However, it would appear that the Dewaele brothers have taken this to heart for today Soulwax rock harder than any group turned out in sharp beige and cream suits should be reasonably expected to.

Opener 'Much Against Everyone's Advice' causes a passing Jason Perry from 'A' to spontaneously express his deep love for the band while 'Saturday' is transformed into a hulking beast of a rock song, David embellishing the recorded version with some meaty riffing. And that proves to be the pattern for the rest of the performance: 'Conversation Intercom' is pumped up almost beyond recognition while 'Too Many Djs' is seemingly steroid enhanced and foundations threatening. An unexpected result from the Benelux Boys then, the Dewaeles surely destined to make up the numbers in any future beered-up 'name five famous Belgians' poser.
